Life in Peril- Tanzanian Albino People
12 year old Bibiana has endured more than any child should ever have to endure. Orphaned at age 10 she an her little sister Tindi (who is also albino) were living with relatives. Her uncle accepted money from men who came to the home one night and attacked Bibiana as she slept. They hacked off her right leg. Bibiana doesn't remember the attack, just the intense pain. Tindi, sleeping in the same room, witnessed it and tried to hide under the bedcovers. Trauma like that may never be gone, but, life has brightened for the sisters. They have been adopted by Al- Shiamaa Kwegyir. She is the first albino member of parliament in Tanzania and is working to improve the situation for albinos in general, and Tindi and Bibiana in particular. As a first step Bibiana is being fitted with a new prosthetic leg - one that will bend at the knee.
